Arcade Fire Are Back with a New Album & Tour: Watch the Music Video for Title Track "Everything Now"

Arcade Fire have announced their major label debut with “Everything Now,” the title track from their forthcoming 5th record due out July 28 via Columbia Records.

Everything Now follows their one-off with Mavis Staples earlier this year and 2013’s Reflektor as Arcade Fire joins LCD Soundsystem and Grizzly Bear in announcing a debut album for Sony Music this year as the major seems intent to absorb every 2000s indie darling. All of this was, naturally, rolled out through a Twitter account disguised as a Russian bot.

Immediately launching into an ABBA style swing and sway, the piano led single is relatively straightforward pop for an Arcade Fire song accented by a crowd-sung chorus from their VooDoo Festival set last year and production from Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter.

Lyrically “Everything Now” targets the obsessive hyperactivity of modern life. “There’s sort of an everything-nowness to life. I feel like almost every event and everything that happens surrounds you on all sides,” Win Butler explained to BBC Radio 1. “It’s trying to capture some of the experiences of being alive now in all its flaws and all its glory.

The cover art, which you can see below, will have 20 different variants in 20 different languages over the LP's vinyl, CD, and cassette sales. The 13 track record is accompanied by an extensive tour, the details of which you can see below as well.

Arcade Fire and Mavis Staples Benefit ACLU With New Track "I Give You Power"

Arcade Fire have returned after two years of silence with a timely released anti-Trump anthem, "I Give You Power." The soulful call and response of the track features music icon Mavis Staples and continues the dark rattle and groove of the band's last LP Reflektor.

It remains to be seen if the track will appear on the full length record Arcade Fire have recorded and poised for release later in the year, though it appears to be a one off according to Win Butler's statements during the premiere on Zane Lowe's Apple Music’s Beats 1 show:

“The song was made to come out now. That’s one of the beautiful things about the times we’re in — you can just put something out. It’s the eve of the inauguration and I think it’s easy to get sucked into sitting on the couch and checking your news feed and watching things on CNN, and we’re just musicians and the only thing we really have to offer is our music. I talked to Mavis last night and she said now more than ever we just need to hold onto each other. For us it’s a feeling of solidarity — to not feel powerless and focus on what we can do as individuals and try to do our part.”

Hear Five New Arcade Fire Songs on 'Reflektor''s Deluxe Reissue

Immediately following the abstract documentary The Reflektor Tapes that chronicled Arcade Fire's time spent creating and performing their 4th LP Reflektor, the Montreal-based indie darlings have released five previously unheard songs as part of a deluxe version of the record out today.

“Apocrypha," “Women of a Certain Age," “Soft Power," “Get Right," and “Crucified Again,” as well as a remix of album track "Flashbulb Eyes" by reggae artist Dennis Bovell. "Get Right" and "Crucified Again," which were played in the film, are available as a 7" starting today, with all six tracks being released under the name The Reflektor Tapes in the (appropriate) medium of tape cassette October 16.

Arcade Fire's 'The Reflektor Tapes' Tickets Go on Sale, Release Date Changes, Watch New Trailer

The Reflektor Tapes, Arcade Fire's "unique cinematic experience [that meets] at the crossroads of documentary, music, art and personal history" will now be released a day earlier on September 23rd. It's also been announced today that the band's first feature film will premiere at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival. You can find screenings and purchase tickets here.

Arcade Fire explained via The Guardian, “There were parts of the Reflektor tour where I think we, Arcade Fire, came the closest in our careers to putting on stage what we imagined in our heads. We were insanely lucky to have Kahlil Joseph documenting from the very beginning.”

Arcade Fire Announce Debut Feature Film Containing New Music 'The Reflektor Tapes,' Release Previews

Arcade Fire will release their first feature film, The Reflektor Tapes, in theaters worldwide on September 24th for a limited time, according to an official statement.

The film is directed by 2013 Sundance Grand Jury Prize for Short Films winner Kahlil Joseph (who has also worked with artists including Kendrick Lamar, FKA Twigs, and Flying Lotus) and will be "a unique cinematic experience, meeting at the crossroads of documentary, music, art and personal history."

According to a press release, The Reflektor Tapes will contain footage from Arcade Fire's recent tour in support of their last album Reflektor, as well as 20 minutes of film shot specifically for the project, and, perhaps most excitingly, a new, previously unreleased song from the band.

Two previews have been released so far, including a "First Look Trailer" and an eight-minute excerpt of the film based around one of Reflektor's best tracks, "Porno." Both are absolutely entrancing and exhilarating, and you should check them out below.

Curiously, both the site and trailer were temporarily taken down, but have since been made available again.
